Beam & Plate / Punch & Drill Lines; a beam punch / drill line is a piece of equipment that uses a conveyor to move a steel beam or “girder” into position, then punch or drill holes – namely bolt holes – in several locations along the steel piece. An automatic beam punch / drill line is a big step in efficiency when compared to the traditional way of making numerous measurements on the raw steel piece marking it according to the paper drawing instructions, then drilling the holes the old fashioned way – typically using a standard drill press or portable magnetic based drill. The old fashioned way was an all manual process. The automated beam punch / drill line can download the digital drawing file, figure out where the holes belong, “probe” the beam using positioners / sensors, then punch or drill the hole.
